Spring Training time. Draft is complete and your kids are in the minors.

As we start our fourth season, does anyone have any idea how if you have a bad team, you become good since the draft is random each year? Have we completed any trades? What can we trade? Can we trade draft picks? Does anyone know who is going to be a good for a significant period of time? Are we all just throwing stuff against a wall to see what sticks (in my case, nothing sticks. I suck)? I beginning to doubt my place in the universe.

1. The assumption is the good teams will get old and new teams will move up to take their place, but it does allow you to add good players in the middle of a run and possibly sustain.  In theory, as things get tighter, more trades will get made at the top to take some older players from bad teams.

2. We are getting closer to our first trade.  I made a good offer on Koufax, but am holding onto the 2nd pick overall next season for dear life.

3. We can trade three seasons of picks ahead and all of our players.  But our incentives are very skewed at the moment as we figure out the true value of picks (extremely high without FA) and the marginal value toward making the playoffs (currently lower).  Also, we are a league full of sharks without any fish, which makes it hard for us to trade together.

4.  We are getting ideas on what makes a good player, but we haven't gotten there yet.  I feel I have offense under control, but not pitching.  Gomer seems to know what he wants, but we all expected that, since he is by far the best initial drafter we have.

5.  I mean, I have a plan and am trying to build a system, but there are things I don't know yet, which make it hard.  Also, we seem to have just enough talent for everyone, but seldom a good spare to trade to fill a hole.  I mean, I'd like to add another right handed hitter, but what is the price for a right handed hitter.  I'm not sure and neither is anyone else.

I just don't see a path for becoming respectable for my team for 20 seasons or so until I churn through the roster and figure out what type of player is good in this league. I don't have any tradeable assets. I just had the overall #2 pick so it won't get better for me for a while. And the #2 pick this year wasn't exactly someone to build a franchise around.

The wheel on top of no financials might be a major cause of our lack of trade movement, since we use low first round picks to grease the wheels.

I figured Koufax would be an Astro at some point.

I've been trying to trade with Clap, and he's giving me a hard NO. I think he just likes to punish me.

Subby wanted to trade with me, but there wasn't huge incentive for me to give up Roger Craig for nothing since it doesn't cost me anything to keep him.

My team will age out at some point, then it will probably be a long road back to the top again. That's when I'll start whining that we need to go nuclear and start CDL 2.0.

Will there be enough player movement without financials? Is the no financials/draft wheel combo too much? It might be... Would you rather have financials and a draft wheel, no on both, yes on both?

Remember this is experimental so if something's not working let's try something different, up to an including the nuclear option.

About the only thing I am almost fully committed to is the draft wheel, in part because I want a long experiment in if it works and second because it makes setting the draft up soooooooo easy -- especially if no one is trading.

And btw, it's all Clap's fault we're not using financials BTW so let's blame him (Subby gets off the hook for once)

Well that's a relief that you're just bitching about me cheating again because you're not predicted to win enough games ... that's normal.

I just got worried I forgot something important

Trades? What are you talking about? There are no trades in the CDL.
